We are CWISL. A love of story, of reading, writing, and illustrating, is what we share with you – and now we’re expanding our mission.
Children’s Writers and Illustrators for Stories and Literacy (CWISL) is a dynamic group of contemporary children’s writers and illustrators who are passionate about promoting a love of books, reading and creative writing. You may have known us as Children’s Writers and Illustrators in South London, but we recently changed our name to reflect our growth from our local roots to reach throughout London and beyond.
Together we’ve published hundreds of books for all ages, from picture books to young adult fiction and non-fiction. We’ve worked with thousands of students and we understand what works and how to get a roomful of children enthused about writing and illustrating, whatever their age.
For more than a decade we’ve been working with schools and libraries to spread the word to children through author and illustrator events and creative writing festivals. From small, local roots, we’ve grown so that our reach extends to children throughout London and beyond. Our hugely popular ShoutWest! and ShoutSouth! festivals bring together hundreds of children for a two-day extravaganza of stories. We even run a creative writing workshop for parents and carers alongside our festivals so that the adults gain insights into what their children are doing.
If you are involved in an organisation that aims to foster creativity in children, we’re able to collaborate with you on author and illustrator events and creative writing festivals and are open to discuss other events and activities that encourage creativity in young readers, writers and artists.
We offer a series of bespoke and custom events. CWISL authors and illustrators have published hundreds of books for children of all ages. We’re experienced and enthusiastic presenters with a successful track record of engaging young writers and artists. Like help planning an event for your school, library, bookshop or festival? We can help.
Looking for an individual author or illustrator for assemblies or hands-on workshops? CWISL members can offer your students an engaging and exciting experience.
