Beverley Birch

Beverley’s latest book is the critically acclaimed Song Beneath the Tides, love story, ghost story, thriller, set on the east coat of Africa. Her previous novel, Rift, is a mystery thriller also set in Africa – longlisted for the Carnegie Medal, shortlisted for two international awards and the Southern Schools Book Award. Writer of over 50 books, many nominated for awards, her work ranges over novels, picture books, biographies, retellings – including Shakespeare’s plays and Frankenstein – and collaborations with photographer Nick Birch.

Novels include The Keeper of the Gate, a time-travel story set in Africa, a ghost story, Sea Hawk Sea Moon and The Night of the Fire Lilies, set against the background of the Calabrian Mafia. Her picture books include Turtle’s Party in the CloudsGreedy Anansi’s Three Cunning Plans, Frankenstein, Two Animal Tales from Africa. 

Beverley visits schools and festivals to talk about her books, writing, and also offers Frankenstein and Shakespeare-themed events and workshops for schools and libraries.
