Andrew Beattie

Andrew is the author of two historical novels for middle grade readers.

He started off by writing children’s plays, many of which have been performed by schools and youth theatre groups in this country, the United States and Australia. More recently he has turned to fiction, and his two novels for children aged 10-12 (both published by Sweet Cherry) are set amidst the chaos and colour of the Middle Ages: in The Secret in the Tower a young apothecary’s apprentice becomes involved in a tangled web of deadly power-politics as the reign of Richard III comes to an end, while The Angel Player is set during the Black Death and centres around a young boy who is a player in a travelling theatre troupe. He has spoken about his books at a number of schools and literary festivals, and lives in South London – CWISL’s original “heartland”.
